I didn't have access to the camera, so you can't see the steps where I cut out the damaged area, fashioned up a patch panel, and attempted to weld it into place.

This was about one full day's work, and it turns out that the metal I was using was partially galvanized (came from an old computer case), so the welds weren't sticking. Now I have to cut it out and re-do the patch panel.
